The skills required for a marketing position vary according to the level and type of job. However, most employers prefer to hire candidates who have completed a marketing or related degree or diploma, and have some working experience under their belts. Many employers also expect candidates to be proficient in various computer programmes used in the industry, such as Power Point and Advanced Word. Senior positions may also require managerial exposure or qualifications.

Depending on the type of job that is on offer, a fair amount of advertising, public relations or sales expertise could be advantageous. Certain positions may also call for good written communication skills, such as in the case of marketing brand managers.
